The Best: The Nebulous and the Real Deal — Six Word Fridays

by Belinda Munoz on August 20, 2010

The so-called best must exist somewhere
It ain’t ordinary or counterfeit, beware
It’s a-simmering in Top Chef’s cookware
Swirling concentric circles in crystal stemware.

Do you want it?  Don’t you care?
Bid on it.  Say a prayer.
Gotta have it?  Truth or dare?
It’s out there.  Who’s the seller?
Wanna buy it?  Who’s the sucker?

If you believe the age-old rumor
The best ain’t anywhere but rather
In the eye of the beholder.

~~~
Your best, has it been hiding?
The best of you, gone missing?
Your edge, your drive, out gallivanting?
Your passion, your senses, gone fishing?
Do you ever catch yourself a-wishing
For days of funning and sunning?
Less rushing, less fumbling, less grumbling?
More loving, more living, more being?
Not so much doubting, more believing?
Whether you’re happy, whether you’re blue
Whether you cheer, whether you boo
Your best? It lies within you.
Ask TinyBuddha, she”ll say ’tis true.
~~~

Where I’m blocked, there’s always qi
Whether I protest, whether I agree
Whether I stay, whether I flee
Doesn’t matter much, this I see.

This is reality, not like Disney.

My best?  It resides within me.
Kiss the ground, hug a tree.
Don’t need to pay a fee.
I know it, this wisdom’s free.

Best wishes, from me to thee.

Love it! Definitely words to live by. I seek the best in myself but don’t always find it. (I am human after all.) However, I do strive for it everyday and I feel blessed in so many ways and that makes me realize that the best means accepting myself while balancing a need to be better.

It’s the “kiss the ground, hug a tree” line that makes me think that while striving for the best, it’s important to focus on the here and now. Be present in your life and really see yourself and the people around you – because the best is where you choose to find it.

Wonderful! And you just made me realize that I don’t use the word “gallivanting” enough…it’s a stupendous word.

Well done, Belinda. Some wise questions there. Especially, Are we hiding our best? Only we know for sure. We have to be rigorously honest with ourselves. The answer is there if we turn inward… sincerely seeking about who created our self to be.

Definitely smile worthy! The best is always within us, it’s our lack of belief that holds it at bay. Well done. (Hugs)Indigo

Swirling in a crystel glass, yes!
You’ve made me think, wise lady.

I feel really bad that this is my response to your wonderfully eloquent piece: You, my dear, are a ROCK STAR!

There are so many quote-worthy lines here that it would pretty much be a regurgitation of the whole post should I try to point them out so I will refrain instead. Kudos for another smashing entry my friend.

Any spot where rhymes may grow
Offers us some fun to know
Six by six, good Friday fare
Brain food, meaning, or a dare!

As for what is weekend “best?”
I say parents, who get rest!

My personal best: shifts, day to day
Always something new and better: best
But I’m always looking, paying attention
Don’t want to miss new “bests”!

This is just the best poem I’ve read all day! 😉

Yup, I don’t worry about best any more, or at least I try not to. There’s always someone else whose best is better than my best, so now I just try rather than worry about bests. Trying is just fine. Best just does my head in. 🙂

Belinda,
This is one of my favorite posts. So much wisdom, to the point and fun. I also like what Tony says…I can relate!
