Unequal Days; Irregular Parts

The days are not created equal.

Some days, light and dark mingle in equal parts; shaping and shading our time and space with graceful balance.

Other days are off balance; weighted too heavily on one side with intensity too much to bear.  Making our senses buckle.  Causing our consciousness to short-circuit.  Giving rise to explosive emotions that splatter stinging stains where they may land.

We truly don’t know what each day will bring.  Joy?  Pain?  Courage?  Fear?  A new friend?  A foe?

Our days have many moving parts; variables that either intersect, bisect or collide.

Our days are organic.

Then again, so are we.  We are organic.  We have many moving parts and variables  that at times intersect into harmonious order; other times bisect and divide or collide into a crashing conflict.

If we can accept the inconsistencies of our days, perhaps we can learn to go easy on our irregularities; the parts that don’t appear to make sense to others or even ourselves.  After all, consistent regularity is far too mechanical and robotic for any of us.  In other words, it doesn’t suit us, does it?  Why?  Because each of us bears soulful uniqueness within.  The one part that consistently cries out to be acknowledged, validated, respected and loved.

Belinda, what a beautiful post!!! I love this line “making our senses buckle” how true is that?
Beautiful thoughts…beautiful words……and another big truth- we all seek to be acknowledged, validated, respected and loved! Well done!!!

I stopped short at the “making our senses buckle.” What a beautiful way to put things. I love your perspective.

Is it really our need for validation that makes us irregular? Or our fear of not being loved?

It can be a buckling experience – especially when the heights are experienced and then closely followed by a trough. It can buckle the senses!
Great post -

I like the idea of accepting the inconsistencies of our days and our own personal irregularities. How true it is and how much more happy we might be if we could simply accept.

I like the picture, I think that is a wonderfully graphic presentation of life as a Mom :-)

Belinda, I needed this. It describes perfectly the last few days I’ve had. Extreme hi’s contrasted with extreme low’s. Tumultuous and euphoric at the same time. I am a creature of habit and crave the routine but I do love it when things are unexpectedly thrown my way. However, because I’m unprepared to react, I don’t always do so gracefully and that’s when it becomes an issue. I just wish I was a little more laidback and am able to handle the irregularities a little better. Especially the negative ones.

Hi Belinda,
‘Consistent regularity is far too mechanical and robotic for any of us’ is a great phrase. We try to put our schedukes, tasks, lives into boxes of time yet they just don’t fit…..and you are right, we would never want them too. Wonderfully written:)

Yes, we are organic and inconsistent! I recognize this in myself and just have to laugh sometimes. I’m such a penny-pincher on some things (always bringing my own lunch, rarely getting coffee shop drinks, waiting for paperback editions of books) but ready and willing to splurge on others (my favorite lotion, fresh berries, nice sheets). I love silence, but also love to talk… funny.

This post describes how I have been feeling. I strive to embrace the unexpected, but it is still a work in progress.

Your truth is beautifully spoken. Days vary but so do hours and minutes too. Embracing and learning from this intensity and calmness. We have more in common than we differ, it just may look different to the outside eye.

My favorite line is captured so visually: “Giving rise to explosive emotions that splatter stinging stains where they may land.” I imagine emotions splattering like spaghetti sauce. It may not be my intention, but it may splatter and stain.

You inspire me to write…

Yesterday, being a Monday, I was feeling the drudgery of life pressing on my shoulders. When my kids and I stepped outside to leave, my daughter said “Mama, sometimes I don’t recognize the world. It seems completely new.” It jolted me out of my lethargy and reminded me to stay in the present and make each moment something special.

I find that as I learn to accept each moment of my day as it is, without judgement, (which is not always possible but I am learning) that all of my days seem to be a bit brighter.
thank you for this Belinda!

Hey Belinda,

Can you imagine a day that was always consistent? How dull! No mystery. Humans try to be consistent because someone said we should be. Doesn’t seem organic, as you say. I’m not into GPS systems. If I’m meant to get lost, I prefer to go with it and see what treasure awaits me and one always does.

Thx, G.
