Releasing Certainty, Welcoming Possibility

by Belinda Munoz on March 4, 2011

With eyes closed and death grip,
she clutched the steel lap bar
white-knuckling curves, corkscrews, loops and dips

hearing noise,
holding breath,
stifling screams.

until

a bolt came undone,

a warning.

With eyes wide and bold resolve,
she opened her heart to what might be
embracing curves, corkscrews, loops and dips

finding voice,
defying death,
living dreams.

Living life we have to let go of the fears. Otherwise there is always what if left in our heads. “she opened her heart to what might be” – I love it!

I’ve always found roller coasters to be a good reminder to me to let go of fear and embrace the possible. I love this!

This one made my heart race. Very nice!

“With eyes wide and bold resolve,

a bolt came undone… OMG. I’m scared of heights as it is. That would have sent me into cardiac arrest. lol Great 55 and metaphor for writing.

You and me both, Adam. Terrifying thought, indeed.

Beautiful! Despite the fact that rollercoasters, real and metaphorical, terrify me ;)

Love the line “embracing curves, corkscrews, loops and dips” Isn”t that the secret of living a life filled with wonder?
Made me want to go ride a rollercoaster!

Roller coasters always make me feel so vulnerable, even when I’m bolted in seven times over.

Beautiful!

I might not do roller coasters, but I definitely appreciate the need to let go and take the ride in spite of our fears.

Another reason to never ride a roller coaster again. Yikes. I am totally sticking to the Tilta-whirl!

And re your comment at G-Man’s, I hope your son’s vomiting is over now. Never any fun to puke.

A bolt came undone?! A bolt. Undone?! My heart is still in my throat.

And this is why I stay far, far away from rollercoasters. Life is reckless enough.

I’ll be thinking of this when we are at Disney World in a couple of weeks!

I am finding symbolism in the bold undone. Often life passes you things far beyond your control and you simply need to face them with eyes wide open, ready to accept whatever may come and enjoy your time while it lasts. (Not that the girl is going to die or anything!)

Wooohooooo…what a ride!!! Loved the metaphor in your poem…
What is life, but another joyride… no? It’s up to us how hard we wanna hold onto it, and how much we wanna let go…

A lovely 55 with a smooth message too!!

Belinda, I love the endless possibilities in this post. We can either fear the corkscrews of live or bravely lean into them, knowing we will get to the other side, upside down or rightside up.

I love the metaphor in this poem Belinda. I am so scared of heights, spinning round and round, so roller coasters are not too terribly fun for me. I will just have to ride the metaphorical one.

Oh, I love the metaphor of this poem. Sometimes it can be so hard to let go of fear and then once you do – bam! The ride can be exhilarating.
