Poetry Doesn’t Need a Witness

by Belinda Munoz on July 13, 2011

Miles I travel ’round these
cyberparts lurking here, there
leaving pieces of me everywhere.

Chuckling sounds, smiles abound
tears fall to the ground
no one but me around.

Stripped and teased and stripteased,
seductive words I read
out (loud), stretch and outstretch me.

No soul too bare nor wounds too raw
for this hometown lass
with home-grown sass

Poetry –
words, mere words
yet so much more…

Poets come and poets go
but poetry endures
with or without a witness.

++++++++++++

And with that, I want to thank the inimitable team of poets behind One Stop Poetry (Brian, Adam, Leslie, Pete, Chris, Claudia, Gay, etc.) for building the awesome One Shot Wednesday community; a virtual space that I can honestly say has made me feel at home more than any other. If you haven’t done so, I hope you will take the time to visit the last week of one shots.

Whether or not you read or write poetry, do you believe it’s true that poetry is everywhere?

I especially like the last stanza. Poetry does indeed go on without a witness!

Beautiful, Belinda. Poetry is everywhere when we take a moment and live in the present. It captures us when we least expect it .

Such a profound statement from a well written piece.

Your poetry keeps evolving, Belinda. It is truly great to see. Indeed, poetry endures… the conversation we all leave behind is eternal and it is our duty to express it fully in our limited life time.

Welcome back Belinda, from flip flops and cherry pickin’! Yes, poetry lives on. I’ve been so inspired by the poets I’ve read online that I went to the poetry section at the library and just read and read.

Hi Belinda,

Life is poetry, if only we would “pause” (as you mentioned below) long enough to see it. Because poetry unleashes itself in short snippets, it’s filled with pauses. Time to take a breath when the eyes go down a level. Time to notice the white space poetry creates. Time to pay attention to the what’s really important.

Thanks! G.

p.s. I finally wrote and had my education and creativity column published in the paper. You can access it on my blog. Wasn’t sure where it would meander to, but ended up in a place I want to go.

This was wonderful, Belinda.

I do believe that poetry is everywhere. I love how you can take just a few words and apply a rhythm and rhyme to them, and tell a story. If we put our minds to it, we can do that with life. I think our hearts naturally do this.
