Looks like this is it unless there's others in the US that have completely given up money. The TV news spot was quite fascinating as I'm sure the book is. Time to check it out when I get back to the States. hi Belinda, I think I saw this man on tv and heard the book was coming out a few months ago. I am always looking for something good to read, and I especially enjoy autobiographies or biographies of people who make a difference that impact the world - or who dare to be different (although I must admit that I am currently reading the only celebrity autobiography I have ever read). I also enjoy a good philosephical discourse, which makes this book sound even more interestisng. I find this concept of a gift economy fascinating. Honestly, I am totally unfamiliar with it. It seems an almost impossible way to live in our society, where you might be able to barter as opposed to buying - but gifting? We are taught an exchange system - we never expect to get something for nothing. We are encouraged to conform from the time we are very young, and honestly, this works well for most of us, most of the time. To do otherwise, to go against the tide, can be a difficult way to live. Finding acceptance in our culture must be quite challenging for Suelo. Thanks Belinda! I enjoyed reading your review of this book! I suspect you won't be able to put it down. It’s a very well-written book and the subject is fascinating in almost a mythical way. I suspect you won’t be able to put it down.
