An Ode to Home — Six Word Fridays

by Belinda Munoz on September 24, 2010

SFheart

The light of the full moon
Reflecting from the vast Bolinas lagoon
Moves me to hum a tune
The sound?  Hardly considered a boon

The cold waters of Ocean Beach
The breakers, a joy to reach
Creativity, freedom to dress for each
Exposed butt cheeks, make you screech
Maturity, giggle police, I thee beseech

Vacationers, beware of freezing arse summers
Keep ‘em warm, your sons, daughters
Don’t wear fur, dump the visors
Hug a lover, indulge those pleasures

Sonoma to Napa, wine country heaven
Taste, no need to buy even
Swish, your palate, sure to enliven
North Bay don’t judge, come unshaven

Oakland out east, keepin’ it real
Born ’round there, Credence Clearwater Revival
Berkeley brainiacs don’t rest on laurels
Alice Waters, still loves white truffles

Sunny South Bay, legendary Silicon Valley
Many migrate there to make money
Google, Apple success, who can tally
Oh so many aspire to badly
Missing the point of living, sadly

In the middle, San Francisco streets
The birthplace of Twitter’s first tweets
Hearts left behind, hark, the beats
Cuisine, no shortage of fine eats
Horizon, the water, the sky meets
Many reasons, expression of gratitude repeats
Home, right here, what a treat
Grace for the valleys and peaks

I’m no California girl you see
But home- is always- thankful worthy
And this homage to your home
Is felt through your loving words.

Every place has its own attitude
Thankful to get to know them
Love how the world always offers
something new, wherever we end up!

That’s why you lead us, Melissa.

You made my day, Belinda. Nothin’ like the Bay Area, nope!

Thought this would resonate with you.
Can’t go wrong ’round the Bay.

I’ve been following along for awhile now and never bothered to notice where you’re from. I’m in CA, East Bay. Neighbors!

Another neighbor in the East Bay?
Fun! Love discovering where folks are.

I’m far from your west coast
(though we get our own creatively
exposed butt cheeks here in Arkansas),
but I love an ode to home -
it’s a kind of universal warmth.

Exposed butt cheeks seem to be
more and more common these days
they’re sweeping the nation, it seems

Hope to go to Arkansas someday
See where Bill Clinton grew up

Beautiful lines of six words each.
My home stretches mountains to beach.
Funny what one learns to treasure,
how only maturity brings true pleasure,
in the homes that cradle us.
May we all be as gracious.

Welcome to The Halfway Point, Ayala!
You visited last month, you say?
Did the sun shine at all?
If not, you must come back.
Its radiance peaks in the fall.
In my humble opinion, that is.

I’m home now too, so grateful.
To travel is wonderful, but tiring.
Truly no place is like home.

I am originally from Southern California but I lived in the Bay Area after college and my family is there now. It is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful places on earth. I am grateful that we get to visit twice a year.

I love your verse by the way. You are so clever.

Since we are in Arizona, we often visit CA. Love the imagery through these words.
