Risk

The pleasure of writing love letters
with bare toes in warm, powder-soft sand
comes with a cautionary tale of pain
from buried shards of broken glass.

The bold counts on luck at most
on healing at least
numbering the days
of priceless meaning-making.

Yes, love is truly a risky business…and how we live in hope of the luck :)

Beautiful, Belinda.

Love the image…what life has one lived if not for the risks they take, and what love have they known if not for luck? So much to think about at the hands of this potent little write.

Loving the depth this one writes in the sand with a few simple scratches.

wonderful way to describe both…the pleasure and risk of love..and good on us if we’re still bold enough to dig our toes into the sand, even after being hurt a few times..

One must be careful with love, and be sure to recycle those glass bottles not leave them on the beach.

And is that you in the pic?? Hot-looking legs!

Ha ha…no, that’s not me in the picture.

There is a gorgeous beach in Mendocino county with tons of polished multi-colored glass, reclaimed from having once been a city dump. Here’s a pic: http://ecosalon.com/glass-beach/

Love is always risky, but can we fully live without that risk?

I liked this poem very much. The image of digging toes in the sand was just right. I know I have encountered sharp shells, if not glass, while doing this as well as daring to love.

Nice poem…you are getting better and better and better:~)

Absolutely loved the first stanza. I too live in California and beach glass is plentiful. But the first stanza said it all. Beautiful picture with a beautiful poem.

Yes there can be broken pieces of glass in the sands of love, but I would risk the hurt everyday because the joy is all-encompassing when you find that right one.

It is good to be a poet, to find the words; though they seldom find the answers, they are a soothing remedy.

Don’t you think?

Cheers!

Maybe I am thick at the moment but I had to re-read the poem two or three times before the meaning struck me – and strike me it did. Love it – you are such a fabulous poet.

I love the first stanza. So visual and palpable.

As much as we are told of the pain of glass, we continue to write those love letters, don’t we? :)
