On Doing Good — (double etheree)

by Belinda Munoz on October 19, 2011

main
He
stood there
mic in hand
mission calling
no time for love songs.
Sunday Bloody Sunday
conjured violence and strife,
words and mem’ry hung in the air.
Broker of peace, maligned and revered,
looked on with an unimpeachable smile.

Lifelong commitment — years that matter
to lives spared from hellish existence.
Men with a purpose: cancel debt,
feed the hungry, fight disease —
they make it look easy!
Critics come and go.
Inspired action
done with joy
breathes new
life.

Hey, that’s me between Bill Clinton and Bono! Or as a friend referred to it: a Bill, Bono and Belinda moment (hubs standing next to me). Yes, lucky me, I had a fun time at an amazing concert this past weekend. It was a certain ex-president’s 65th birthday celebration and a fundraiser billed as A Decade of Difference was held to benefit his foundation (be sure to click on the link to learn more about the good work that they do).

That is impressive! Oh, and the photo is great, too ;D Seriously, Belinda, wonderful poem and a reminder that people in unique positions still haven’t found it easy to to do good things in this world.
