Knowledgeable. Compassionate. Sincere. Kind.

These words come to mind when I read fellow blogger Katie Tallo.

Katie is a writer, director, motivator, runner, vegetarian and mother who writes a blog called Momentum Gathering where she seeks to inspire simple, joyful life change.

She recently released her first e-book, The 7-Week Life Cleanse where she helps others make simple, manageable changes with maximum impact. Her methods fit any lifestyle and she guides with gentle persuasion that is hard to resist.  In this e-book, Katie gives us eye openers for wrenching open our awareness, do-ables for hammering out some solid actions and take-aways for leveraging change and momentum.

Katie has a way of breaking down the elements in life that become complicated over time. In her own words, simple steps bring the greatest change. She writes clearly and steers clear of sweeping generalizations, allowing the reader to take away what speaks to her or him. Her reassuring voice and soul-centered approach peppered with clever metaphors feel like a warm hug — you get the feeling that everything will be alright. Not surprisingly, her favorite season is summer for its heat, beach volleyball and sun-sparkled landscapes.

I have never met Katie in person but her down-to-earth personality comes through in her writing. After reading a few of her posts, you just know she’s fun, easy to like and genuinely loves her life. When I asked her to share in 10 words what there is to love about life, she said, nature, love, babies, sunsets, writing, friends, fudge, peace and moms.

A woman full of energy and a healthy sense of adventure, if she had to be on reality TV, she would pick The Amazing Race because of the travel, experiences and camaraderie. I invited Katie to answer 10 questions using 10 words and she graciously accepted.

1 How has the seven-week cleanse been good for you?
It has helped me to live more mindfully and joyfully.

2 What have you learned since launching your e-book?
There are people out there in pain who need kindness.

3 You wrote about womentum and as a self-confessed feminist, I loved it. Tell us what kind of momentum, if any, you see gathering around manmentum or malementum.
Manmentum is male power used for goodness and for love.

4 You’re a filmmaker. How has filmmaking shaped your beliefs about how fiction and reality affect each other?
Filmmaking is storytelling, voicing truths, reflecting reality back at ourselves.

5 Name one of your favorite places in the world and tell us why.
Sandbanks beach because my family spends our summers together there.

6 What do you think every person has a right to?
To be themselves without hiding or being subjected to hatred.

7 What should every person realize for her/himself?
Their potential and how boundless and awesome it truly is.

8 As a Canadian, what should the world know about Canada?
It is a beautiful, vast, safe, free, compassionate, multi-cultural nation.

9 The blogosphere is abuzz with Rainer Maria Rilke’s quote “…live the questions”. Name one question in life that’s worth living.
Are you loving your children for who they really are?

10 Name one answer to a life question that you live passionately.
I serve by inspiring real, joyful change in others’ lives.

Hi Belinda,

Nice Q & A. Canada sounds lovely. will check out Katie’s blog. I’m going to adopt “alivementum.” Fun to customize the word!

Have loved that Rilke quote for awhile. Our life consists of the questions we ask. Unfortunately, folks don’t ask enough questions about anything. Boggles my rebellious mind!

thx. G.

Wow…I was really impressed with Katie and you for conducting this wonderful interview. I loved Katie’s answers and to do it in 10 words. While I loved them all, my favorite was #9…”Name one question in life that’s worth living…” and Katie’s answer was “Are you loving your children for who they really are?” That’s a question every parent ought to consider:~)

I also sensed exactly what you said, Belinda, about the compassion and kindness of Katie…it comes through in all her answers. There’s also a sense of durability — someone who knows how bend like a tree without breaking. Great post, great interview and thank you for introducing me to Katie:~)
