Mother May I?

My winter tears,
splashed across your frozen soil,
you turn into blossoms in the spring.

My summer sweat,
evaporating under your blazing sun,
precipitates into autumn mist.

The trail of blood,
trickling from my day of toil,
you stir into sunrise full of promise.

My hopes, my dreams, my fantasies,
unto which you breathe feathered wings,
so that they may someday soar.

What you have, I freely claim as mine.
And what I have, I clutch with a closed fist.

You keep on giving,
I keep on taking,
without as much, as a

Mother, may I?

This is a humble homage to the ever-nurturing Mother Earth in observance of International Mother Earth Day on April 22nd.

Oh this is soooo lovely! I especially like the first two stanzas about the changing of the seasons. One of your best, I think!

Belinda,

Like the others, I liked this poem very much. It’s perfect for Mother Earth Day….you’re right we’d better think about asking “Mother may I….” more often than we do now.

I wanted to let you that I finally received information on the woman I am sponsoring She’s is a widow from the DRC and is raising 10 kids! I want to thank you for telling me about Women For Women International:~)

Have a wonderful day, Belinda!

That is my favorite part of this beautiful poem. Thanks so much Belinda.

I love this, Belinda. Mother Nature would be pleased to be recognized for all she does, just like any mother would.

Thanks for your visit. I appreciate it.

Belinda, this is awesome, awesome, awesome on so many levels. At first I thought it was about romantic love, then, for a mother human, then understood the Mother Earth reference. LOVE it! Best Earth Day writing ever!

This is truly beautiful. How true isn’t it … “What you have, I freely claim as mine.” We have so so taken everything for granted; as if it is there for us to claim and as if it is our birth right! It is good to see you again.

Beautiful paean for waking up to Nature. This is a great call to awareness of our habitual consumption and tendency to take natures bounty for granted.
