What to Keep

by Belinda Munoz on May 26, 2011

If life lingers past corporeal fate
what baggage passes through the gate?

Not skinny bones, not seeds unsown,
nor palace filled with jeweled thrones.

Most things can be shared, borrowed,
given away. What’s meant for safekeeping?

Fond memories, gratitude, doing/feeling good,
warmth that makes a heart swell.
Breeze through byways to the next
stop.

Belinda, beautiful as always. The only baggage that we leave behind is our energy and good things that changed others. Love this !

Yep, have to agree–the more we accumulate, the more we have to lose, and none of it is transportable through those doors. Liked your 55 v. much.

This is lovely and so true, Belinda. All the really important things we carry inside.

Oh wow, Talon said it well. We take nothing with us, but what we’ve kept in our hearts.

It kind of brings the question; “If I alone can pass the gate, then with is I?”

Didn’t make much sense, did that. Sigh. Typical for me.

Of course you make sense, Alice. Love your stories.

Keeping it simple ~ a beautiful 55 with simplicity at its core…that and doing good deeds. A nice reminder for living well with integrity.

Not seeds unsown ~ such a call to empty ourselves of all that we have to give!
This is lovely.

Words to ponder, keeping it real, our legacy will be what we did with our time, not how we spent it.

That is an excellent message.
We should safekeep pride too, even if it is technically a sin

Beautiful. I was just thinking about this after being redirected to our basement for tornado drills. I was thinking about what I’d bring with me, if we lost everything. Did I really want to hover over my material items or would I always have what was most important with me? In the middle of writing a post on this :)
